An industrial cam lock is a compact, rotary-action lock where a key turns a metal cam to latch a door or panel. It's the workhorse of enclosure security, valued for its simplicity, reliability, and low cost across countless industries. When selecting one, consider the required cam style, mounting dimensions, key type, and material to match your specific application and security needs.

Core Components

Cylinder: The central body housing the locking mechanism. It contains the keyway and the tumbler pins (or disc detainer mechanism) that only allow the correct key to turn it.

Cam: A metal arm (usually steel or zinc alloy) that rotates 1/4 turn (90 degrees) or sometimes 180 degrees when the key is turned. The cam is the part that physically engages with the strike or frame of the enclosure.

Housing/Mounting: The lock is typically installed through a pre-drilled hole in the door or panel. A retaining clip or nut on the backside holds it firmly in place.
